Moving to a new location, whether it’s local or long distance, can be equal parts exciting and stressful. In order to keep eyes on the prize, try including some of these tips to make the process of moving more fun.
Make a Moving Playlist
One of the easiest ways to keep spirits elevated is by putting on some upbeat tunes that are easy to dance to. It’s a classic but effective way to keep moods bright during what can normally be a stressful and tiring time. Singing along to a hand-tailored and personalized moving playlist is a great way to make hours of packing feel like minutes.
Pack Some Surprises
Moving isn’t all about packing; it also involves equal amounts of unpacking. To make that process less tedious, pack some fun surprises, such as toys for the kids, items that have fun memories, or even favorite snack foods. That way, unpacking can be like a treasure hunt as the family remembers the mini time capsules they packed away in storage.
Focus on the Future
Moving can be extremely overwhelming, so it’s important to keep in mind that all the stress will pay off! Keeping things in perspective by thinking about the future living setup, planning decorations, and even imagining lying in bed in a new home once it’s all over will help the time fly.
Take Frequent Breaks
Instinct can suggest that it would be better to do all of the moving at once without stopping to get it over with more quickly. However, this is a surefire way to get burnt out very quickly. Plan in a five- or ten-minute break every hour to relax and let the lactic acid settle! Use this time to make snacks, watch part of a TV show, or just sit down before getting back into the process. And don’t forget to not overdo it—let specialty movers step in for difficult tasks or large items.
Moving can be very daunting, but a positive attitude can make a world of difference. Keep things light, and make sure to remember that the process will pay off in the long run.
