Moving by the Numbers

Planning a move is a large undertaking, but also a common one in the United States. In fact, the average American is expected to move 11.4 times over the course of his or her life. Between 2012 and 2013, 11% of people over the age of 15 moved— that's 28 million people! With so many people relocating, there are a lot of options out there when it comes to a moving company. Finding the right company is key to making the experience as hassle free as possible. Moving by the Numbers

Many people that move choose to hire a moving company because it is a cost-effective option. Looking back at the numbers, it's clear that income also plays a large role in moving averages. Those with a higher income were more likely to stay where they are. Thirteen percent of people with an annual income of $5,000 or less moved between 2012 and 2013, which is nearly double the percentage of people in the $100,000 per year bracket who moved during that same time period. Why such a big difference? Eight percent of people who moved cited cheaper housing as the reason, and 2% moved due to foreclosure or eviction. Also, those in the higher income bracket tend to have more job stability, meaning that they are less likely than those with lower income to move due to work relocation.

Another factor that plays a role in the likelihood of moving is age. People of all ages move, but the younger they are, the more likely they are to move. As a matter of fact, the average American will move six times by the age of 30. On the other hand, the average American over the age of 60 will move only once.

Of course these figures are just averages. Everyone is different and will have different moving experiences in their lives. However, no matter how many times someone moves, hiring just makes sense!
